This past week has been a particularly busy one for the members of Stanford Heights.
On Tuesday July, 15 at approximately 12:45 in the afternoon the department recieved an alarm for mutual aid to Midway for a reported car on fire within a structure. Midway command units arrived and quickly declared a signal 30 working fire. Upon Rescue-10’s arrival the crew laid in and established a second water supply to the burning structure. The crew later releived Midway’s first due engine company and assisted with handline and rooftop operations. Stanford Heights returned to service in about an hour and a half.
At about 6am Thursday morning Stanford Heights was activated for another reported structure fire, this time in thier own district in the Town of Niskayuna. 2nd Assistant Chief John Courter was the first unit on scene and was presented with a light smoke condition comming from the roof of the residence. Upon further investigation it was found that the structure of the home was burning and a working fire condition was declared. Challenged by an unusual shortage of manpower Stanford Heights recieved mutual aid from several additional departments. Grand Boulevard Fire Company, Niskayuna District 2, Midway Fire Department, Colonie Village Fire Company, and Carman Fire Department all contributed manpower to help bring the fire under control. Once crews located the source of the fire they were able to quickly apply water streams and extinguish the blaze. All units returned to service around noon.
